Exam Timer

Practising under timed conditions is one of the most effective ways to prepare for an exam. This free exam timer lets you set any length up to 4 hours, go fullscreen and work through a past paper the way you will on the day.

It works for school tests, GCSEs, A-levels, AP exams, university finals and professional exams. Set the time from your exam board and press start.

How to use the Exam Timer

  1. Look up the official time for your paper and set it with the Time button.
  2. Clear your desk, put your phone in another room and press start.
  3. Answer under exam conditions until the alarm rings, then mark your paper.

Why timed practice works

Recalling information under time pressure, sometimes called retrieval practice, strengthens memory far more than re-reading notes. Timed papers also train your pacing, so you are not surprised by the clock on the day. Start with single questions on a short timer, then build up to full papers.

Between practice papers, use 25 or 50 minute Pomodoro sessions to review the topics you got wrong.
